Albert's Story
Albert E. Fisher, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, in Springhill Village Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family. Albert was born in Terre Haute, on May 19, 1933, to Herman Fisher and Helen Wilson Fisher. He was a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters 157 for over 60 years.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, a member of the Marine Corp League of Terre Haute and a member of American Legion Post 346 for over 60 years. He was a member of the Exchange Club, a bowler as well as an avid sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors and was an avid bird watcher with his wife, Sandy.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Fisher, who passed away in 1996. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Lee Fisher; and a sister, Virginia Bracken.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Shanklin Fisher, whom he married Dec. 15, 2007; three sons, Gregory G. Fisher and wife Joyce of Camby, Douglas A. Fisher and wife Teri of Plainfield, and Stanley D. Fisher and wife Sherry of Terre Haute; one sister, Betty Patterson and husband Hubert of Peoria, Ill.; five grandchildren, Chris Hamilton, Rachael Pounds and husband David, Megan Harmon and husband Travis, Kasey Fisher and Lesley Fisher; three great-grandchildren, Molly Harmon, Jack Harmon and Elijah Pounds; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Passe, Al Crawley, Gary Smith, Kenneth Cox, Jack Fuller and Bob Moreland. Services are scheduled for today, Jan. 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3050 E. Davis Ave. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time today, at the church. Pastor Rick Swan and Pastor Aaron Wheaton will be officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by American Legion Post 346.
